The ShowerBox family is thrilled to announce our expansion to Birmingham! This exciting new chapter is thanks to the incredible efforts of Don Russell, Bruce Loudon, and Ewen Kinnear.
These local heroes, united by their love for walking football and a passion for helping others, were already volunteering at a food bank when they encountered the challenges faced by Birmingham’s homeless community. Inspired by ShowerBox’s work in London, they reached out with a vision: to bring dignity and hygiene to those in need through a mobile shower unit in Birmingham.
The journey wasn’t without its hurdles. Transforming a van into a fully-functional shower facility with three units, complete with water, heating, and even a backup generator, demanded dedication and resourcefulness. But Don, Bruce, and Ewen persevered, and by the end of 2023, their dream became a reality.
We’re excited to announce that Birmingham’s ShowerBox will begin operations on March 26th, 2024! Every Tuesday, from 9 am to 2 pm, we’ll be stationed at Birmingham Cathedral, partnering with the fantastic LetsFeedBrum charity. This collaboration ensures not only showers but also access to vital support services, all in the heart of the city centre.
This is just the beginning! Our Birmingham team has ambitious plans to reach even more people and inspire others across the UK to replicate this impactful model. We are incredibly grateful to Sarah Lamptey and the ShowerBox London team for their unwavering support and guidance.
