ShowerBox is so happy to announce the launch of its newest mobile shower unit in Birmingham. This exciting expansion marks a significant step forward in ShowerBox’s mission to provide dignity and support to vulnerable communities.
The new mobile shower unit, generously funded by the public through ShowerBox’s crowdfunding campaign, joins London’s existing ShowerBox initiative, offering free and convenient access to showers for those experiencing homelessness. This initiative has already served over 41,000 individuals in the past five years, fostering improved hygiene, confidence, and well-being. The team behind the expansion, retirees Don Russell, Bruce Loudon, and Ewen Kinnear hatched the idea during their walking football games. The plan is to offer weekly showers in the grounds of St Philip’s Cathedral starting this summer. To fundraise for the project, the energetic trio will be running the 10k at the Great Birmingham Run. The Birmingham mobile shower unit will be equipped with private showering facilities, hot water, and essential toiletries, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience for everyone. ShowerBox’s dedicated team of volunteers will provide a welcoming and supportive environment, fostering a sense of community and hope.
